Topic & Preliminary Thoughts
It is a safe assertion to say that most of the population that are hip-hop artists are black. It is at least safe to say the black hip-hop artist is responsible for the mainstream music that is hip hop. DJ Kool Herc founded hip-hop in the black New York Community in the 1970’s, 1973.
There needs to be a change in the game so that these marginalized peoples are paid and appraised fairly in the business ecosystem of today.

Hip-Hop is the top genre globally, there needs to be an undoing of “box” what it means to be a genre especially when It comes to hip hop and how do we cultivate hip-hop so that the artists are able to grow and finance their entrepreneurial position with as little barriers as possible. | It began in New York and has been traversed globally, many era’s and styles have came and gone and many mashes of genres have occurred. How can the artist(s) cultivate and allow the community to flourish and grow and diffuse so that’s it’s appraised its worth and the effort for the producer, consumer, and distributor or met with an ecosystem that is mutual beneficial for all parties involved.

At this time in hop the DJ “merry go round” was revolutionary and there was breakdancing and graffiti all are ways to let loose exert energy and expressions. There was no nay-sayers who say you cant use that or you need to do, say, be this or that a lot of artistic freedom.

The Black Community and Hip Hop Culture becomes the counter-sub culture that it had to be to counteract the initial blowback and critique it got from the white audiences

Ice-T, NWA, Snoop Dogg |
Honestly I’m not well versed in the beginning of gangster rap because it’s a generational thing my era had Eminem at the forefront but most of the gangster rap was a reaction to the police brutalities felt by many young African Americans of the time. Nevertheless the impact of nwa, dr dre, snoop dogg and the chronic was explosive pun intended and began to be very fruitful for the artist of time.

The Geto Boys |
Again I’m not week versed in the beginning of rap and hip hop in the south but I know enough that there popularity of Houston born geto boys allowed for the foothold of hip hop in the south and for the money to follow suit.

To lastly say, there are a lot if bad-actors in the business and what majority of consumers fail to see that there are real lives affected behind the sounds and music and glitz and glam. From money to beef to what is pushed to the forefront and what is kept underground the business side of hip hop will certainly come to a crossroads at some point. |
